DESCRIPTION:
PW mvt only - Elgin, Convertible model, 21J, Grade 91, three finger bridge mvt, 16S, currently set in OF format, white glass enamel DS canister-style (friction fit snap-on) dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, nickel damascene, s#942145. A scarce to rare top grade movement, we believe total production of Elgin's Grade 91 was approximately 350 made as all examples we have observed have fallen neatly within only the 942001 to 942350 portion of the larger serial number block (942001 to 943000) that was reserved for this grade.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine scratches, steelwork with mild oxide, concave polished steel wheel above barrel with circular marks indicative of polishing for oxide removal, case screws are replacements with smaller head size diameter; dial with hls in center section, outer chapter hl at 5, some perimeter wear which is most notable at upper and lower portions; excellent hands.
